Please join Human Biology in congratulating nine outstanding seniors for their fine accomplishments in winning prestigious national and university awards and fellowships. Three are recipients of the Fulbright Grant program, an unprecedented four have won the Deans' Award for Academic Achievement award, and two were granted John W. Gardner Public Service Fellowships.
The Fulbright Grant program
facilitates cultural exchange through direct interaction on an individual basis in the classroom, field, home, and in routine tasks, allowing the grantee to gain an appreciation of others’ viewpoints and beliefs. Through engagement in the community, the individual will interact with their hosts on a one-to-one basis in an atmosphere of openness, academic integrity, and intellectual freedom, thereby promoting mutual understanding. Selection for the prestigious Fulbright is based on many factors, including academic record and the extent to which the project will help to advance the Fulbright aim of promoting mutual understanding among nations through engagement in the host community.

The Deans' Award for Academic Achievement
is given each year to between five and ten extraordinary undergraduate students. These students are recognized for academic endeavors that might not otherwise be celebrated in the areas of independent research, national academic competitions, presentation or publication for a regional or national audience.
